Atzaró Okavango Camp, the latest offering from the acclaimed Ibiza-based Atzaró Group, debuted in 2024 and raises the bar for luxury safaris in Botswana. This remarkable off-grid sanctuary combines the timeless charm of classic safaris with modern principles of conservation, sustainability, and authenticity. Located in a private concession at the heart of the Okavango Delta, Atzaró Okavango Camp provides exclusive access to one of the globe’s most iconic wildlife regions, guaranteeing absolute privacy and deep immersion in nature. Luxurious accommodations and attentive service promise an unmatched safari experience, complete with guided game drives led by expert trackers who will help you spot elephants, hippos, lions, leopards, cheetahs, and the elusive African wild dog, among other unique wildlife.
Channeling the romance of a bygone era, Atzaró Okavango Camp embodies the spirit of Africa’s natural beauty in a luxurious setting, emphasizing personalized game-viewing experiences far removed from crowded destinations. With 1,100 square kilometers of pristine wilderness to explore, this intimate safari retreat serves as a haven for discerning travelers seeking both adventure and serenity.
Situated between the Moremi Game Reserve and the Gomoti Plains, this area is renowned as one of Africa’s most exclusive and wildlife-rich locales. Atzaró Okavango Camp has partnered with African Bush Camps, a prestigious provider of exceptional wildlife and safari experiences, ensuring access to top-notch local knowledge and expertly skilled guides.
The camp features 12 romantic suites—eight standalone, plus two private villas, each housing two suites—with plunge pools and elevated ‘star beds’ designed for spectacular starry night views. An adjacent private viewing deck is the perfect place for enjoying relaxing sundowners. Interiors showcase parquet flooring, mid-century decor, and antiques, creating a vintage chic ambiance enriched with luxurious African textiles and Turkish rugs. The suites and villas overlook the breathtaking lagoon and wildlife-filled waterways. All accommodations come equipped with air conditioning, heating for cooler mornings, high-speed Wi-Fi, en-suite bathrooms, and outdoor baths and showers for an authentic African bush experience.
During their stay, guests can expect top-tier hospitality, featuring infused cocktails from the Palm Bar, an elegant fine dining area, a cozy fire-lit boma, an art gallery, boutique, and an extensive wine cellar. The camp offers unique wellness amenities, including a state-of-the-art gym, yoga shala, and rejuvenating spa treatments. Guests can partake in sommelier-led wine tastings and high tea on the observation deck, with cocktails and champagne served by the 20-meter-long pool adjacent to the lagoon, where hippos and elephants can often be seen. The Ancestral Boma area offers a tranquil space honoring the history of the region’s past generations, making it a lovely spot for enjoying drinks before embarking on thrilling night drives.
Described as the ‘last paradise,’ the Okavango Delta is a year-round destination for nature lovers. The landscape transforms with two distinct seasons, each creating a haven for wildlife. During the dry season, floodwaters draw animals and birds to this pristine aquatic environment. In winter, elephants migrate to remote islands, leading to concentrated sightings near the water. The wet season, known as the emerald season, brings migratory birds and a surge in herbivore births, attracting carnivores. A safari during this time offers captivating afternoon thunderstorms, balmy nights, colorful birdlife, and stunning landscapes ideal for photography.
Activities available include private guided game drives, night drives, community visits, hiking, helicopter safaris, bush dining, outdoor cinema, photography safaris, stargazing, fishing, and traditional mokoro canoe trips. Families can also enjoy a variety of kid-friendly activities.
Encouraging stays of five days or longer, Atzaró Okavango Camp invites guests to unwind amongst nature and immerse themselves in the soothing sounds of the wilderness. Guests are encouraged to take advantage of the wellness facilities to maintain or begin new routines, rejuvenating themselves in one of the world’s last unspoiled landscapes. Each private villa comes with its own vehicle and ranger, available for sunrise and sunset game drives.
Conservation and Sustainability
Atzaro Okavango is deeply committed to initiatives that restore natural habitats and support fragile ecosystems. In partnership with African Bush Camps and the African Bush Camp Foundation, the camp works alongside anti-poaching patrols to protect the diverse wildlife in the area from illegal hunting and safeguard endangered species. During the construction of Atzaró Okavango, significant efforts were made to preserve existing trees on the site. The camp features an on-site solar farm, utilizing advanced solar photovoltaic technology with lithium-ion battery storage. All water used at the lodge is purified through a state-of-the-art reverse osmosis treatment plant, with re-mineralization following purification. Furthermore, the camp practices sustainability through initiatives like reducing plastic waste and utilizing renewable energy resources, as well as composting all organic kitchen waste on site.
