The Social Hub, a hybrid hospitality group based in Europe, has proudly achieved B Corp certification with an impressive score of 107.1.
Operating across 18 locations in the UK and Europe, The Social Hub features 10,000 keys along with food and beverage services, event spaces, and coworking environments.
After a year-long evaluation, The Social Hub surpassed the necessary benchmark of 80 in five critical areas: governance, workers, community, environment, and customers.
This process required demonstrating commitment to socially and environmentally responsible practices, including energy sourcing, waste management, water usage, fair worker compensation, diversity, and corporate transparency.
Amber Westerborg, the director of sustainability and impact at The Social Hub, stated: “The growing demand for sustainability among travelers, business owners, students, and the general public is certainly a significant factor in our quest for B Corp certification. However, our primary motivation is the desire to hold ourselves accountable and distinguish our positive impact on the planet and the global community.
“Our greatest impact will come from empowering the industries in which we operate and encouraging other organizations to follow suit. Together, we can create a better society,” she added.
Charlie MacGregor, founder and CEO of The Social Hub, emphasized: “Environmental and social responsibilities are essential for staying relevant in any sector. They influence customer loyalty, brand trust, and overall business viability. Financial institutions are tightening lending criteria, and regulations like the CSRD heighten the urgency. Companies that hesitate now will need to rush to adapt or risk becoming obsolete within five years.
“As a substantial hybrid hospitality firm set to expand to 23 hubs and beyond in Europe, we recognize our duty to continually innovate for the greater good and foster a more sustainable hospitality industry. Achieving B Corp certification is only the beginning; we intend to open more hubs and welcome millions of guests, including students who represent the next generation of leaders, playing a pivotal role in our community-building initiative. Our commitment to creating a better society will only grow stronger and more impactful from this point onward,” he stated.
By 2030, The Social Hub aims to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 78%, generate 50% of its energy on-site, obtain further environmental certification through BREEAM (In-Use) for all properties, and ensure that 100% of residual waste is diverted from landfills or incineration.
Additionally, the company has pledged to donate 1% of its revenue to the newly established TSH Talent Foundation, offer masterclasses through The Better Society Academy to upskill emerging leaders, and partner with Talent Garden to create skill sprints for students and coworkers in its hubs.
