In an inspiring display of community spirit, a group of dedicated hoteliers raised over £10,000 in a single day while participating in a fund-raising walk for the Hospitality Action charity.
Members of the Bristol Hoteliers Association (BHA) were joined by representatives from various Bath hotels for the Walk for Wellbeing.
This year marks the fifth annual occurrence of the Walk for Wellbeing initiative across the UK, and it is the second time hoteliers from Bristol and Bath have engaged in a local walk.
Every penny raised during this event will be allocated by the charity to support individuals within the hospitality sector who are experiencing challenges and mental health issues.
Nearly 90 participants from hotels in Bristol and Bath traversed the route between the DoubleTree by Hilton Bristol City Centre and the Royal Crescent Hotel in Bath, successfully raising £10,600.
Collectively, this year’s Walk for Wellbeing events garnered an impressive £110,000 for Hospitality Action.
Bath and Bristol’s contribution totaled £10,600 out of the £110,000 raised nationally.
Ahad Vahabzadeh, Hotel Manager at DoubleTree by Hilton Bristol City Centre, stated: “We participated in the Walk for Wellbeing for the first time last year, and it was a highly regarded and enjoyable event for everyone involved, particularly as it supports a cause that resonates with us deeply.
“The 20km route follows the scenic Bristol and Bath Railway Path, which is quite pleasant, so after the success of our initial Walk for Wellbeing last year, we were enthusiastic about participating again this year.”
“Many individuals seeking support from Hospitality Action cite mental health challenges and financial distress as significant issues. A considerable number of them work in public-facing roles, including bartenders, servers, and baristas.”
“The hospitality industry can present numerous challenges in terms of work pace, hours, and workload; therefore, we take our responsibility to promote the wellbeing of our staff very seriously.”
“While we endeavor to provide exceptional care for our guests and customers, it is equally important that we prioritize our own wellbeing and that of our colleagues.”
“Hospitality Action offers essential support at critical times, and we are proud to have raised over £10,000 to assist them in continuing their invaluable work.”
